Freestanding Barriers Fund - GTA

Donation protected

Who we are.

Company Company Projects, a full-service design/build agency located in  Toronto, ON. Our primary focus is interior and furniture design and we work closely with the small business and arts community.

Our response to the Covid 19 pandemic/ what need did we identify.

All across the GTA many of the corner stores, bodegas, and small grocers have remained open in an effort to ensure that the public will continue to have broad access to food and essential items. We are very grateful to this small business community for providing quick and easy access to the essentials needed to keep our communities at home and safe.

However, we noticed that many of these small businesses lacked the protective equipment that has become commonplace in many of the larger grocery stores. More, we were concerned that the lack of countertop barriers, in these independent spaces, was putting these hard-working folks at unnecessary risk.

We have assembled a team of volunteers to build and donate freestanding protective shields and are actively disturbing them throughout the GTA area. Our aim is to ensure that all corner stores, bodegas, and small grocers are equipped with the barriers they need to interact with the public.

We have put together open-source software and how-to guides with the goal that this grassroots effort will be employed more broadly https://www.instructables.com/id/Freestanding-Barriers-Covid-19/

Why are we asking for financial support.

Thus far, we have managed to assemble 25 free-standing barriers solely from public donations alone. Our aim is to generate 100 more plexiglass barriers for those small businesses most in need. Currently, we need financial support to purchase more material and to support the logistical operation of this project.

If you are able to make a direct material donation, please contact [email redacted]

Where would the money go.

Your financial donation will go directly to purchase all materials and to cover the costs of delivery and transportation of these items.

We would also like to support some of our small business partners that have stepped up to support our effort (fabricators, makers and suppliers). Many of these businesses have offered their support regardless of their own precarious situation and we would like to help some of our partners cover the cost associated with this project.

Note: The safety of our volunteers and community is our highest priority and we have strict guidelines in place to protect the public.

We are following the Food Bank Safety Guide as a reference for all aspects of this project https://www.toronto.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/948e-COVID-19-Guidance-for-Food-Banks-and-Donation-Centres.pdf
