Logan's Veterinary Bills
For those of you who don't know me, my name is Jared Friedman. I volunteer regularly at the West LA Animal Shelter and I foster cats and kittens from the Shelter as well.
Every animal that goes into a foster home brings down the number of shelter pets euthanized each year. By fostering a pet, more space is opened at the shelter for other pets, and at the same time, fostering provides a nurturing home for an animal until it can be adopted to a permanent and loving home.
Recently, I fell in love with my foster kitten Logan and so I adopted him. He is 11 months old and will be turning 1 on October 18.
Recently, Logan got sick--he had been vomiting for 3 days straight. I called a trusted vet to make a house call and after providing Logan with electrolytes and medicine to stop the vomiting, the vet recommended that his abdomen be x-rayed because the vet felt a mass in his abdomen (the concern was that he swallowed a foreign body that was now lodged in his stomach).
I took him first thing the next morning to get x-rays and sure enough, it turns out that there is a foreign body in Logan’s stomach. While he is able to eat and drink, he cannot evacuate his bowels and requires surgery to remove the obstructing foreign body.
I have posted the x-rays as well as the itemized estimate for the surgery. I have already spent $275 on an exam and the x-rays. The surgery will cost, at a minimum, $1,730. This does not include the cost of required medications after the surgery (i.e. pain medicine, antibiotics, etc.) and it does not include the cost of overnight hospitalization at a 24-hour facility (the hospitalization that you see on the itemized estimate is the cost of keeping him at the veterinary clinic until closing, after which I have to take him to a 24-hour hospital for overnight hospitalization). This is why I am asking for $3,000--given the $275 already spent, plus the $1,730 for the surgery equals $2,005. Adding in the expected cost of overnight hospitalization as well as medication, I am expecting the total, with tax, and after the GoFundMe expenses are taken out, to cost $3,000.
Your help in saving my foster kitten turned forever cat would mean the world to me. I worked so hard to keep him from being euthanized that when push came to shove, I adopted him into my home because he is an incredibly sweet and loving cat that doesn’t deserve to be put down. Please, help me keep Logan alive so he can enjoy a long life and a long friendship with my other cat Louis.
