Hello friends, I've got some heavy stuff to share with you.
If you've ever had the pleasure of coming to my home, you'll know that I have two wonderful, perfect, amazing feline companions. You will also know that Pail is the outgoing star of the show here at house Swartout.
My sweet boy has had a rough week/month. He had been behaving oddly for the last month, and I did take him to the vet right before Thanksgiving to see what was going on. He was sleeping more, hiding, and avoiding social gatherings (very unlike this sweet social butterfly.) We ran a full blood panel and couldn't find a cause for the change in behavior. I thought maybe he was depressed & experiencing some winter blues so I bought him a bunch of super fun toys and treats. He couldn't have cared less about any of it. Other than a little more sleeping and a little less walking about, he was acting normally, eating normally etc, until last Wednesday. He had a scary seizure-like episode that lasted 20-30 seconds. 30 minutes after his episode on 12.12.18, he was walking funny, dragging his back legs and turning in circles. I rushed him to the emergency vet and he has been in & out of the e-vet & our regular vet ever since. Our worry originally, was a brain tumor. He stopped eating on Sunday night, which, if you know Pail, is EXTREMELY abnormal #willpaileatthis. Today (12.19.18) I brought him to a neurologist at the Emergency clinic in Eden Prairie to figure out what the heck is going on in his lil body. During their physical assessment, they noticed a heart murmur. The neurologist seemed to think this was related to a heart issue and not a brain tumor. They think his heart is not functioning properly (potentially HCM) and is throwing blood clots (i.e. lameness in back legs, seizure-like episode.) They recommended an x-ray, an echocardiogram, and an ultrasound to assess his heart. As I'm sure you know, these things cost money. His overnight care at the e-vet alone will be $415 (not including any of the meds and tests.)
If you've ever had the pleasure of scritching his forehead, or feeding him a pita chip, or getting snuggled to near-suffocation by him, you know how truly special he is. Perhaps you've never met him in person and just enjoy his Instagram hashtag #willpaileatthis (spoiler, he probably will.) Either way, he is a very good boy that is deserving of some medical answers.
Getting answers on what is going wrong with him means running expensive tests, but they will give us a better idea of how to make him feel better and treat whatever is going on. If you can find a little wiggle room in your budget to help me shoulder the costs of this sweet angel, I will be forever grateful. Pail is my best friend. He brings so much joy to me and everyone that knows him.
Your contribution will help pay for:
-Echocardiogram, $600
-Ultrasound, $440
-X-Ray of Abdomen, $340
-Blood Coagulation Test, $339.50
-Emergency Consultation, $326
-Overnight Emergency Care, $414.75
-Medications, $340
-Progress Exam tomorrow morning 12/20/19, $146
There may be additional costs added tomorrow morning depending on how he does overnight.
Any amount you can spare is deeply and thoroughly appreciated. No amount is too little.
