Help Our Family Fight Wrongful Charges, Medical Crisis & Financial Collapse
Hi everyone, my name is Camila, and this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to write. My husband and I moved from Florida to Iowa this past March, hoping to build a better life for our two children. We were excited for a fresh start — new opportunities, a safer environment, and the chance to grow our small dreams together. But just a few months later, everything came crashing down in ways we never could have imagined.
In late August, my husband was wrongfully accused and charged with two crimes he did not commit, by his former employer which we cannot name at this time for legal reasons. Despite there being no proof, he was arrested in our own home on September 4th of this year.
Thankfully, his family was able to get him out by paying bail, but since then, our entire world has been shaken. Because these charges show up on his record, no one will hire him, and this case keeps getting more and more complicated by the day, the odds are not in our favor at the moment because this is a well established organization in our area.
This company has a history of making questionable claims against employees, and many hardworking families have faced similar accusations. It’s devastating to see good people treated this way; and now, it’s happening to us.
The public defender we were assigned cannot help us to the extent that we need since he said we woild need to speak with a civil lawyer, and from the research we have done we can't afford one.
We’ve tried everything possible to stay afloat and earn the money. We started a small business selling Cuban pastries and coffee from home, and I started two online businesses in hopes of raising enough money to help us with this since we both cannot find jobs. We have applied to everything basically in the state and have also applied for remote jobs with no luck; him because of his pending charges on his record, and me because I can't seem to even get an interview. We’ve sold nearly everything we own just to keep going. But now we’ve lost our car, and that has limited our work even more, at this point we are not making any progress, no matter how hard we are working and staying positive, and we’re now terrified of losing our home.
On top of all this, the stress has taken a serious toll on my health. I’ve been struggling with thyroid issues, and since my husband’s arrest, the goiter on my thyroid has grown from 2.1 cm to almost 4 cm, meaning I now need surgery to remove half of my thyroid. This has been life-changing news for me, and the emotional toll has caused extreme anxiety and PTSD for both of us. We’re now under psychiatric and psychological care, trying to take the best care of ourselves so that we can be strong and present for our children.
We are good people. We’ve worked hard for everything we have and never imagined we’d be here, but right now, we’re at the edge. We would like to try to get a car so either my husband or I can continue to go out and look for work so that we can somehow get out of this nightmare we are in and maybe be able to rebuild out lives. We are hard working people and we just want to have a chance.
Every dollar raised will go directly toward helping our family stay stable and seek out better resources to help us with this legal case.
We’ve already sold everything we could to try to make it on our own, but we’ve reached the point where we simply can’t do this alone anymore. Your support, no matter how big or small, will help us hold our family together and make sure my husband has a fair chance to prove his innocence.
If you can donate, share, or even just send prayers our way, it would mean the world to us. Every single bit of help, no matter how small, makes a difference in helping our family hold on to hope through this nightmare. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your love, kindness, and support.
