UPDATE: “No improvement on Mom's condition, & the anoxic brain injury has been causing some seizure activity. She's been in the ICU in Alton & is having a ventilator trach & a feeding tube installed today, & then will likely be transferred to a longer term care unit, hopefully in St Louis.”

“Haven't been on here in a long time, but wanted to give an update on Mom. She was having respiratory distress about 4am Monday morning & then went into cardiac arrest in the ambulance. She was transferred to St Anthony's Hospital in Alton, Illinois. We've been hoping she's just been really slowly metabolizing out the initial sedatives they gave her, but she is still unresponsive. [The doctor] gave her an EEG this afternoon & she has signs of an anoxic brain injury. [The doctor] says it's 50/50 whether she'll wake up & recover cognition, but for now it's just wait & see & he'll reassess on Tuesday.”

We noticed a flat tire on the car and took it to a local mechanic. The vehicle’s driver-side front strut and ball joint, the brake pads, and the brake rotors need to be replaced for safety reasons. The strut and ball joint damage makes it unsafe to drive on the road for even short trips. This makes the near half-hour trek to the hospital nearly impossible.
The accessible van that we have been using has repair issues as well and is not fuel efficient or reliable. We are asking for $5,000 to repair the cars and for immediate medical bills (ambulance fees, emergency room visits, etc). Any additional funds will help with the mortgage, housing supplies, and general support while we prepare for the immediate and long-term future.
