Just found and secured in our car!
Finally resting after getting an IV pain injection. She has lost 12 pounds.
Home, home, home at last! 17 days missing. Resting before surgery day.
Enjoying her trip swimming with the fishies and whales after getting an IV pain injection.
Open fractures of both right tibia and fibula. Severe tissue swelling, bone and tissue infections.
**GREAT NEWS**
HONEY BEE HAS BEEN FOUND!
She was found over between Allen Rd. and Hoffman Rd. off Williams Lake Rd. She had been lost and living in the woods for 17 days. Thank you to all who had continuously helped look for her.
I rushed her to Veterinary Care Specialists in Milford. She had an open fracture (bone sticking out) of her tibia and fibula on her right rear leg from being hit by a car. She also has road rash all over but that will mend over time. I got a 2nd opinion at Towne and Country Vet and a 3rd opinion at Animal Surgical Center of MI in Flint.
It was ultimately determined she had been hit by a car weeks ago and she already had severe infection in her bones and surrounding tissues. If we would have tried an external fixture to try and save her leg she had a very high chance of failure and needing an amputation anyways.
On Thursday, Oct. 6th Honey Bee had her right rear leg amputated by one of Michigan's top animal surgeons, Dr. Cody Doyle, from Animal Surgical Center of MI. A very special thank you goes out to Dr. Degner, Dr. Doyle and the rest of the staff at ASC. They treated our Honey Bee like a princess and we are forever grateful.
Being a licensed vet tech myself, I will be taking care of all her medical, physical, and mental rehabilitation out of our own home! She was sent home with a walking epidural so I can administer morphine to help with her pain management. She is also on oral pain meds, an anti-inflammatory, and antibiotics. I have a sling to help her but honestly she does better without it. I use it on stairs and getting her in/out of the car or up/down off furniture.
This is going to be a long and expensive fight but we wouldn't change it for the world.
We are so happy and blessed to have our baby girl back home with her family where she belongs.
You'll never meet a happier dog. Even after all that she has gone through, she still has the greatest love of life.
We have decided once she is healed we are going to train her to be a therapy dog and we will visit people with special needs and veterans who are in need of some uplifting spirits. Our Honey Bee is meant to do great things! ♡
**Please consider donating to her surgical and medical needs fund. We are providing her the best quality care medicine and after care that she greatly deserves.**
Thank you all for your love, support and prayers.
**Honey Bee told me she was trying to be like on the tv show we watch, Naked and Afraid. She was determined to make it to 21 days in the wild but ended up tapping out at 17 days. She was bummed until I told her 17 days in dog time is actually like 119 human days. She feels like a pretty big bad ass now. ;-) **
Sunbathing after surgery, ready to go home.
Surprising her biggest brother when he got off the bus.
H.B. has a lot of bones to catch up on. She's ready for the challenge.
