Dear Furrfriends
Backstory: The OC Humane Society volunteers team is trying to improve the lives of the shelter dogs by offering behavioral therapy and science based training for them. Our goal is to decrease the stress reactions and train a happier more suitable well-behaved pet to increase their adoptability and keep them from being returned once adopted. I have been a volunteer at the shelter for 2 years now and I’ve realized that just walking the dogs 15 minutes every other day is not enough. The behavior they develop, and exhibit must be addressed to increase their adoptability and ensure that they can find a forever happy home. Please help us give them a chance.
Statistics/studies have shown that:
1. 50% of shelter dogs are returned due to behavioral issues
2. Just 20 min per day of training increase their chances of getting adopted by 50%
The funds we raise will allow us to engage a professional dog trainer to train our furry friends. We have chosen Dave Dreyfus from Everydog to work closely with our pupps and volunteers implementing training techniques to reduce and curb “bad” behavior before it starts. Kennel Stress behavior includes excessive barking, obsessive chewing or licking, jumping, mouthing and being fearful or reactive towards people and other animals. The funds will allow us to engage Dave for an additional 5 months to work with dogs and the volunteers and transfer that knowledge to the core volunteer group. When that knowledge gets passed on to all future volunteers during their orientation at the Shelter, we can ensure a self-sustainable effort moving forward.
How you can help: If you can donate, every bit would help. This is more important than food or cute outfit for our dogs. If you can't, please help us get the word out and share this story.
