Hi , my name is Lucy and I'm fundraising for Pearl , my dog of a lifetime Sheepdog , the most stoic , joyous little dog I've ever had the pleasure of owning, who really needs your help . In August 2024 , Pearl whilst working with myself rounding up sheep , got hit by a car in a road traffic accident , her story has gone far around the southwest and further up of how the amazing team and specialist Annabel completely reconstructed Pearl's jaw at Cave Veterinary specialists in Somerset. After healing fantastically after 8 weeks Pearl was thrilled to come back to work with myself and the sheep , earning herself a huge amount of love from friends, family and people further afield , Pearl now comes in on the sofa ( she also has her own sofa ) every evening to be treated like the queen that she is . Pearl being back at work was going great , this is as far as her story has been publicised up until now . On the 20th November 2024 , Pearl whilst working and keeping the sheep flowing in the shed so I could routinely vaccinate them , hobbled up behind the last sheep , no noise was made by Pearl, no yelp of pain , no fuss, no crash or bang of noise , just her hobbling up lame on 3 legs . I retired Pearl for the day and took her home for a rest . The next morning I looked thoroughly at Pearl's leg and urgently took her to a local vets , unfortunately their orthopedic surgeon was on holiday and therfore were unable to treat Pearl , a brief discussion about a referral back upto Cave Veterinary Specialists was had , but due to the snow on the A30 , the traffic being at a standstill and the huge danger factor of tackling the snow elements , I decided to take her to another vets whom had an orthopedic surgeon ready to treat Pearl. 21st November 2024 , Pearl had her first operation for her leg, after an xray showing there was a small fracture and a loose bone fragment down the front of her leg and severe ligament damage . The vet decided to treat pearls leg with screws placed into the bone and internal sutures ( fishing wire) to place her ligament back into the correct position. After 3 operations dating from 21st November 2024 to the 6th January 2025 , thousands of pounds spent and alot of tears , Pearl is still not fixed. I have sought a 2nd & 3rd opinion from seperate practices who have recommended a more successful operation , being a joint fusion. This procedure seems to be the absolute best option for Pearl at this stage , however comes at a hefty price tag of over £8500 Plus a possibility of upto £450 more depending on the antibiotics needed. Unfortunately due to the RTC which Pearl had back in August 2024 , her reconstructive surgery and saving her life , her pet insurance is maxed out and therefore have been unable to claim anything towards Pearl's leg injury I never ever would have thought that I'd have ever needed to set up a go fund me page , but I've spent several thousands over the last few months on operations, medicines, 2nd opinion consultants etc etc I hate asking for help at the best of times , let alone asking for help financially to help dear Pearl , however I must swallow my pride and ask for help so that I can get Pearl the correct treatment that she needs so she can start to heal and recover and to soon be back to doing what she loves the most.
