Please support our 18 months old Puppy surgery :)
Dear Friends:
Words cannot express how truly grateful we are for your generous support of Kuma. At present, your kind donations have raised enough funds to cover the cost of surgical treatment for his left hind leg which, according to his surgeon, is starting to show signs of muscle atrophy.
Our ultimate goal is to be able to surgically correct both hind legs which is why we have taken the step in increasing Kuma’s Goal to $9,000 in order to address his right leg.
Specifically, Kuma is diagnosed with patellar luxation grade 4 and an angular bone deformity in his hind legs. Although at present he is a happy and energetic puppy, walking does take a toll on him and he is unable to cover long distances due to his gait. As both these conditions are congenital, his insurance will not touch it.
Patellar luxation is a fairly common condition in small dogs of his breed. Some dogs are able to thrive with only supplements and minimal support however, in Kuma’s case, the condition is severe enough that, if left untreated, will ultimately lead to lameness. Further complicating this is his angular bone deformity which curves his spine in such a way that makes people wonder if he is constantly needing to relieve himself. He doesn’t. That is just the way our baby is shaped.
Due to the pandemic, one half of us has been out of work for over a year and the other half is not guaranteed re-contract. In these uncertain times, our hearts are full knowing Kuma has your support and love.
His surgery for the left leg is scheduled for June 23rd. We will keep you updated on his status/progress with photos and cannot wait to share his new walk with you all.
Thank you All,
MAriko Iwasa
