I’m reaching out with an urgent and heartfelt request.

I am fostering Mocha and Eeyore from Rabbitats. Upon receiving them, I realized that they had chronic ear and eye issues that Rabbitats was downplaying and wasn’t treating properly. I also noticed one of them has urinary issues that wasn’t addressed and the other developed a severe ear infection without proper meds.

When I asked Rabbitats to take them to the vet, they made excuses, passed me off to another person and even ignored me for weeks at a time. They didn’t want me to take the bunnies to the vet. They wanted to “assess” the bunnies themselves, then rehome them to another unsuspecting family, even blamed the stress of being in a new home for causing their health issues. It felt very strange they were more concerned about taking the bunnies back than getting treatment asap.

I feared that these bunnies wouldn’t get the proper care they needed especially since I ran out of the meds Rabbitats gave me. So I contacted my regular vet about the rabbit’s issues and he questioned why Rabbitats had been giving Mocha EYE drops for her EARS, using EXPIRED medication prescribed almost a year ago (dose should have been 2x p/day, not once a week as Rabbitats instructed), and using an antiseptic rather than an antibiotic for Eeyore's ears. He also suspected they had mites and now I'm worried they passed it off to my other rabbits! He gave me proper meds and advised me to contact the SPCA.

After 2 weeks of treatment with the new meds and no help from Rabbitats, I finally took them to my vet for a full check up and was prescribed several medications. I had to pay for all of it out of pocket costing $500.

Since posting this on social media, Rabbitats has been threatening me with disgusting lies and manipulation out of revenge for making this ordeal public. They even blamed me for the infections and mites. I have since learned from former Rabbitats volunteers that this is normal for Rabbitats to use dirty tactics to ruin the reputations of their critics. Rabbitats is also known to “abandon” rabbits on fosters. The former volunteers told me the conditions the rabbits were in with Rabbitats were horrific, which was the reason why the rabbits were sick and infested with mites! I have received photos of Mocha and Eeyore in these terrible living conditions. Both bunnies are also 100% deaf.

I do not ever want these bunnies going back to Rabbitats if this is the quality of life they believe is acceptable and especially since it’s the reason why they are sick in the first place.

Now in my care, they’re finally safe—but they need much more to fully recover and thrive. I’m doing everything I can, but the costs are quickly adding up and I can’t do this alone. I am a student and don’t have a lot of funds, as I’m paying for school myself. They need more testing done – urine, blood and possibly xrays in a few weeks.
