Lorraine and Ron have been devoted partners for many years, though they were never legally married. Because of this, Lorraine does not qualify for family medical leave to care for Ron during his serious illness.

Ron has no one else to rely on, and Lorraine cannot bear to leave him alone during this difficult time. Unfortunately, she has exhausted all her vacation and sick leave.
