Please support Kevin Herndon's Medical and Relocation Needs

Dear Friends of Kevin Michael Herndon,

Since 2016, when Kevin had his first stroke, Kevin has had nine strokes total. Kevin is completely paralyzed on his right side, has lost lots of weight, is extremely weak, he is on oxygen, and has a feeding tube as well.

We don’t know why Kevin keeps getting so many strokes. Because of a hate crime in 1989, Kevin was shot four times and those four bullets are still lodged in his body, making it impossible for him to have an MRI done on him. Having an MRI done may move the bullets towards a vital organ or artery causing major problems including death.

Since December 11, 2024, Kevin has been in six hospitals including Ohio State University hospital in Columbus, Ohio, where he is now, in a High Observation Unit. HOU is less serious than Intensive care but with more care than a general ward. He had been until recently, been in Intensive Care.

Due to Kevin’s health challenges, he has been unemployed for several years now. Because Doug (Kevin’s life partner) is essentially the only family Kevin has, Doug has been taking care of Kevin entirely by himself which has been a full-time job. This means, that Doug is unemployed as well.

In addition to all of this, Doug and Kevin cannot move back into their present home due to racist and homophobic neighbors. Doug who is white has received racist threats in regards to Kevin who is black and their home has recently been shot up with bullets. They want to relocate as soon as possible to another area where their lives are not in danger. Kevin does not know about this as Doug has been able to keep this from his so far.

We are starting this GoFundMe to help with five major objectives.

1.) At this time, Kevin has a $15,000 medical debt which of course will continue as long as Kevin is in hospitals and until he can come home.

2.) Because Kevin is paralyzed, he needs a custom-made wheel chair.
There is an out of pocket expensive of $5,000 for Kevin for the chair which is $19,450 in total.

3.) They will eventually need a handicap accessible van for Kevin and his wheelchair. We don’t know the price of that yet, even if they get a used van.

4.) When Kevin is released from the hospital, he will need 24-hour care.

5.) Moving expenses for moving from an unsafe home to their new unknown at this time location.

Kevin was active as a Sunday school teacher at Renaissance Unity when he lived in Ferndale, Michigan and had mentored boys who didn’t have anyone else to help them.

If you know Kevin, (as I have for the last 25 years), you would know that he has always been there for his friends. He would give you the shirt off his back if he thought you needed it. He’s the first to help out any way he can. It’s now his time to accept and receive help.

Please consider helping this wonderful man and his partner Doug during this extremely tough time. Any amount of a donation would be greatly appreciated. Also, please keep Kevin in your prayers.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this bio of Kevin’s recent life. Please donate if possible, pray, and share this with others, so we can get the word out to as many of our own family and friends as possible. God bless.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Sincerely,
Brian Alexander and Doug McMorrow
