Our sweet Kaydence is 14 years old, and like so many teenagers, she should be focused on school, friends, and the things she loves—especially sports. But for quite some time now, she’s been quietly dealing with a condition called pectus carinatum.
This condition affects the shape of her chest, but it’s impacted so much more than that. It has taken a toll on her confidence during such an important time in her life, and it has made physical activity and sports more difficult and uncomfortable for her. Watching her push through this has been incredibly hard, because she is strong, capable, and deserves to feel confident in her own body.
After exploring all options, we’ve learned that the only way to truly correct this is through surgery called the Nuss procedure. This will be Kaydence’s first surgery, and while we are hopeful and thankful for a solution, it is also overwhelming.
Because Kaydence is currently uninsured, we are facing a significant financial burden. The hospital has agreed to work with us moving forward, but we must come up with a $5,000 down payment in order to get her the care she needs.
This surgery will not only improve her physical health, but it will give her something priceless—confidence, comfort, and the ability to fully be a kid again. Recovery will not be easy. Kaydence will be out of school for the remainder of the year and will face an 8–12 week recovery period filled with rest, healing, and follow-up care. Her care team is hoping to do her surgery April 13th. Pre surgery registration is April 10th.
If you are able to help in any way—whether that’s donating or simply sharing this post—we would be so incredibly grateful. Every bit brings us closer to getting Kaydence the surgery she needs and deserves.
Most importantly, we ask for your prayers, support, and encouragement as she prepares for this journey. She is one of the strongest girls we know, and we cannot wait to see her come out on the other side of this, smiling brighter than ever.
Thank you for loving and supporting our girl.
