Hello. My name is Joshua.
I am in 8th grade, and I love learning. I love math and science... I love reading great stories... but, most of all, I love studying history. Learning about important people from our past, learning about significant events, and reflecting on our tragedy. Up to this point, my learning is primarily in the classroom, reading books, and watching movies and documentaries. But, there is only so much I can learn from being so far away. I want to do more than learn - I want to experience the feeling of where we came from and who we are.
Fortunately, my school has offered me a chance (through School Tours of America) to spend five days this summer at our Nation's capital and New York City - two of the most treasured places in our country to not just learn about our history, but experience our national values of unity and pride. I imagine myself walking through the Washington Mall, visiting the museums that capture historic moments, and standing in silence at war memorials. An added bonus - I have a chance to experience these moments with my teachers, classmates, and friends.
This is where I really need your help.
This will be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to experience our history, hear from people who actually lived through these moments, and understand who we are. I know this experience will help me grow, deepen my understanding of our history, and learn with my friends as we race around over these five days.
This trip would mean a lot to me. Your help shows me that there are so many people who care about me, my learning, and my future. I would deeply appreciate any help you can offer. Although every donation helps, nothing is more important than your thoughtfulness and support.
Thank you for listening.
