Please Support Jessica's Fight Against Stage 3 Colon Cancer

Dear family, friends, and compassionate strangers:
Earlier this month, Jessica and her family’s lives were dramatically impacted. What initially began as a routine screening ultimately resulted in the devastating diagnosis of stage 3 colon cancer. This diagnosis came crashing down on her just 6 months following the tragic loss of her beloved husband, Doug.
Jessica has already undergone one surgery to remove the diseased portion of her colon, though this was only the beginning of her road to recovery. She will be having a port placed and will soon begin chemotherapy treatments. She will receive chemotherapy every two weeks, and it will last a grueling 6 months.
Jessica is a devoted mother to her five children. While the chemotherapy treatments alone will be extremely taxing on her physically, mentally, and emotionally, her youngest daughter, Joby, has Down Syndrome and autism. Joby’s weekly appointments and therapy, along with her general care, necessitate a considerable amount of transportation and time.
Having worked for the Sparrow Health System for 25 years, Jessica is an extremely competent and valued certified surgical technician. In her position on the weekend night shift, however, she does not accrue any paid sick leave. If she doesn’t work, she doesn’t get paid. It’s that simple. When considering the toll these next few months will take on her body, coupled with her son’s wedding and daughter’s high school graduation (both of which will occur during her course of chemo), it is unimaginable how a lack of paid time off further magnifies the degree of hardship.
Jessica is a cherished mom, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and coworker. Her world has been absolutely turned upside down over the last 6 months. In spite of this, she has remained stoic, strong, and so selfless. Her faith and grace have been unwavering.
Jessica’s body needs time and opportunity to heal and recover. Your support will allow her to have a cushion that lessens the financial strain that this diagnosis burdens her with.
Her journey is far from over, but if there is one thing we know about Jess, it is that she is a fighter. Let’s rally behind her with the same love and generosity she has always shown to others.
Jessica and her family thank you for your kindness, generosity, and continued thoughts and prayers as they navigate this journey.
