Hello, my name is Linda, and I am fundraising for Jadwiga, my 67 yr old friend with disabilities and debilitating pain who has now been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Unable to retire due to lack of funds, she needs to work full time and supplement this income with additional part-time employment. She anticipates needing to work well into her 70s. She is fulfilling a 2 year contract, and has recently started receiving benefits. She remains on a 9 month probation period. She risks paying back relocation expenses for this position if she cannot complete the contract. Despite declining health and increasing disability, she has an exemplary attendance record.

 

Jadwiga's health has declined. She has had 3 back surgeries, the last of which has resulted in declining mobility and increasing pain, significantly affecting her quality of life. She now faces a 4th surgery without which she will require a wheelchair in less than a year. Now diagnosed with Lymphoma she will require assistance at home, and she will have to travel 500 kms back and forth for specialist care. She will require overnight stays, and as driving long distances exacerbates symptoms, flying is recommended.

 

Jadwiga has dedicated her life to helping others, whether through her hard work and determination or her infectious optimism and enthusiastic participation in all she encounters. She is a proud supporter of the Military Community with whom she worked for several years. She emigrated from Poland as a young single mother with 2 children, and she has remained self-sufficient since the day she landed in Canada. Pursuing dreams of certification as an Addictions Counsellor and Psychotherapist, she completed a Masters degree and countless certification programs, while holding down a full-time job.

 

Jadwiga is sincerely grateful for any assistance and comfort you may be able to provide. The immense worries related to illness, disability, finances, and future weigh heavily on her mind and are major contributing factors to her overall health and well-being. Thank you for your generosity.
