This is a re-post for those that have not seen the original post.
Hi, my name is Valerie Tilson and I am creating a fundraiser on behalf of our very dear friend, John (Jack) Porter. Jack suffered a serious cervical spinal cord injury while working outside of his home on the evening of May 18th. He is currently hospitalized and will be facing a very long road of medical care, recovery, and therapy.
Unfortunately, Jack's wife Karen is battling terminal bone cancer and is unable to work. Their son, JJ, is a college student. The Porter family need our help. We are hoping to raise enough money to help Jack now and also to support JJ in the future.
After his traumatic fall, Jack was taken to a Pittsburgh area hospital and immediately had surgery to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord. The surgeon believes that Jack's spine was bent when he fell and hit his head on the ground. The impact caused severe cord impingement and damage, leaving Jack currently paralyzed from the neck down.
Jack’s spinal cord injury will require expensive medical treatment and equipment that will not be fully covered by insurance. He will require ongoing treatment several years after his initial injury and perhaps life long. Jack’s medical expenses will add up quickly and will be unfathomable. In addition, the Porters live in Beaver county so the expense of traveling to and from downtown Pittsburgh multiple times of day will also be costly.
Jack has been a lifelong funeral director and it was his greatest honor to put others above himself. At this time, he and his family need our help.
Please share this if you are able to. Any assistance is extremely appreciated by his family during this critical time.
We will try to add updates as Jack recovers.
Most of all, the family needs your prayers at this time.
