Hi, my name is Patrice and I am an Irish mammy who interviewed 2 Palestinian families who did not have family outside of Palestine to set up go fund me's. Who didn't have access to a bank account recognisable by go fund me and who, most importantly lost their homes, their lives, their jobs and need supports and aid to eat.
I connected with Hisham and started supporting his family directly a few months ago when I started taking action for Palestine. He is 34 years old and has 4 young children. They lived in the Shejaiya neighbourhood in Northern Gaza. He was working as a farmer on their own farms. His families farms were destroyed twice before in previous conflicts. They lived in a beautiful 4 story house and it was bombed, along with their neighbourhood. Hisham’s wife shared a video with me of their tent and it’s hard to think of how many are sharing these inadequate shelters.
They were forced to flee from their homes and in October, they sheltered in one of the Unwra schools in Khan Yunis and then about 2 months later, they had to move again when the IDF closed in on Khan Yunis and fled to Rafah where they are now living in overcrowded tents.
He mentioned that the thing he finds the hardest is all of the beautiful memories he has from living inside their house and now it’s turned into rubble. People coming from the North have told him his house has been totally destroyed and he saw a picture of it partially destroyed but they don’t know because they can’t go back.
The tents are cold and the heavy rain gets in. They can hardly provide food and water on a daily basis. He has to leave the tents to get signal and reach out to people for help.
One day Hisham shared a dream he had a dream where he was back in his house, sitting on the sofa and playing with the children surrounded by their flowers. He said, “how I wish I could dream every night at home and return home again.
