Dear Friends,

On December 20th, my mother, Elizabeth Nunez, was issued to the hospital for immediate care. She had been experiencing a lot of upper and lower body pain extending from her back to her legs, which was accompanied by excessive bleeding.

The pain increased to a degree where over-the-counter medication could not subside the pain. I will always remember that day; the day I held my mother’s hand as she slept peacefully while receiving a blood transfusion and hormones to occlude the bleeding.

She was sent to the hospital 2 more times after her first visit. The pain did not stop…

On December 25th, my mother was rushed to the emergency room for one final visit. This propelled the doctors to locate the source of her symptoms. A series of blood tests, biopsies and ultrasounds were performed in a matter of two weeks. We received each negative test with great optimism.

On the morning of January 8th, my mom received a call from her doctor and it felt as if the world had ceased to exist - my animated, spirited, beautiful mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cervical cancer.

That morning, I held my mother and she held my father; I watched as my brothers clung to one another. A moment I still see vividly to this day.

Today, a group of doctors are working tirelessly to help her. Eli has begun her chemotherapy treatment and has handled each session mightily. We will remain hopeful and as strong willed as her.

These past few months have been incredibly tumultuous. With the initial hospital visits, tests, ever-changing medication, oncology appointments, chemotherapy treatments, CAT scans, MRI scans, and PET scans the bills have racked up. Due to my mother not being able to return to work, my family’s household income has been cut in half.

My family is counting on the generosity of the good people to help in any way they can. No amount is too big or too small. We thank you immensely for your kindness and support.

May God bless your heart.
