Please Support Debbie in Her Healing Recovery

On August 12, 2023, our beloved Debbie Chick (Short) experienced a tragic fall down a flight of 15 stairs. She sustained a serious spinal injury that resulted in paralysis of her legs, arms, and hands. Due to the severity of the spinal injury, she was transported by air ambulance to Westchester Medical Center for emergency spinal surgery. Following the surgery, it was unknown whether she would be able to use her arms and hands again. She remained in ICU at Westchester Medical Center for 10 days and was then transferred to acute rehab. She received excellent care and rehabilitation at Northern Dutchess Hospital where she spent over five weeks learning how to walk with assistance and slowly regaining mobility in her arms and hands. Debbie still has quite the road ahead as she builds strength and is working hard to regain her independence. Her doctors and support staff believe that she will continue to improve.

Born and raised in Kingston, Debbie is loved by the community. It's likely you've been greeted by her smile and cheer for nearly forty years at one of the Guido family restaurants. Debbie is a loving mother, aunt, sister, cousin, and friend who loves to cook, travel, garden, and dance. Debbie's goal is to be able to continue these passions with her usual gusto, despite her injury. Her delightful spirit and unrelenting optimism have been key to her healing.
