Supporting Billy’s Recovery

On 31st December 2025, while out jogging in preparation for his upcoming Giants trial, Billy suddenly became unwell with headaches, vomiting and neck stiffness. He was taken to Bega Hospital on 1st January 2026, where scans showed he had suffered a brain bleed.

Due to the seriousness of his condition, Billy was urgently transferred to Sydney Children’s Hospital, where doctors worked quickly to stabilise him and determine the cause. Billy was put in an induced coma and further testing revealed that Billy had a ruptured arteriovenous malformation (AVM) — a rare condition, especially in someone so young. Doctors believe this is something Billy was most likely born with, and it had gone undetected until now.

Billy underwent treatment to address the AVM, and while not all of it could be treated immediately, the procedure helped stabilise his condition.

Billy was woken on 5th January and has since been showing positive signs of recovery. On 8th January, he reached an encouraging milestone when he was well enough to be moved out of ICU and into the neuroscience rehab ward. While this progress gives everyone hope, it is still early days and rehabilitation is only just beginning.
