Hi everyone! This GoFundMe has been created for Ron Stokes, RN, CWCN, Sith Lord at Defenders Detachment, 501st Legion, & The Dark Empire, Vector of Umbrella Corp. I hope I got all that right! Honestly, I don’t even know what it all means… but I know it means a lot to my friend. It was a place he belonged and shined!
I met Ron working in Home care. He is quite possibly one of the most talented nurses I have ever met. He has an uncanny way of connecting with patients, with his dry humor and sarcasm, he could help patients get through rough situations! Ron and his army(hope that is the right word) volunteered to be pallbearers at the funeral of my 9 year old patient. Ron helped me find the words to speak at the patient’s funeral. He explained to me how true super heroes were made; through great adversity comes great strength…Ron is a true picture of this created hero. His health alone has created more adversity than any one person should ever have to endure, but it has only made him stronger, more compassionate!
Earlier this summer Ron was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and given less than a year to live. Previously working in hospice, he spent time getting his priorities in check… His focus in getting treatment to attempt to extend his life and provide quality to his remaining time on this earth with his beautiful wife, Angela. Ron continues to work full time. This work provides him purpose and distraction from his own trials. That’s just who Ron is… he finds meaning and joy in helping others. He is the last person he thinks of…
If you can get him to talk about his round with Covid and how the virus tried desperately to kill him. You will hear of him trying to start his own iv at home instead of taking up room in the ER, or his compassion for friends that were worried about him, but mostly you will hear of his adoration for his loving wife Angela that sat dutifully at his bedside as they started ECMO, or cheered him on everyday of rehab. Their love and appreciation for each other is truly beyond words.
Ron understands the limits of his time and condition but has some things he would like to do while he can. He wants to go home to Tennessee to see his mom, he wants to take Angela on a vacation. The goal of this collection is to show him the love and support he has always provided to others, to allow him to do more than worry about the mounting bills and those he is leaving behind. Even while he is drained and receiving blood and fluids and a threatened hospital admission, the last person Ron is thinking about is Ron! He has patients waiting for him… If you feel like you can help, it would certainly appreciated
