Hi friends and family ❤️ Most of you don’t know that I was diagnosed with a rare ( 1 in 1.1 million) brain condition called Moyamoya disease. I was recently diagnosed in February of this year. I’m very grateful to be able to have surgery by the best in the nation, Dr Gary Steinberg and his team at Stanford in CA. This surgery will allow increased blood flow to my brain so I won’t be at high risk for major strokes. I’ll need to be Stanford Medical University for 3 weeks since I’ll need test done prior to having both surgeries done.
We arrive at Stanford on June 7th.
I will have an angiogram on June 8th and MRI with and ultrasound on June 9th.
My first surgery will be June 13th and will be 6-7 hours long and I’ll be in the ICU for post-op care for about 3 days after.
My second surgery will happen June 20th and will also be 6-7 hours long and I’ll also be in ICU for about 3 days.
I’ll have post-op MRI’s to make sure the surgeries went well and I should be able to head home on the 28th without staying longer!
Our family has an amazing support system and we are very grateful for the help we’ve already received. My husband Michael will be needing to stay at home in Portland with two of our kiddos and my Mother-in-law Elaine, since he will need to be bringing in income to pay the bills. My mom will be at our house to help also. My dad Tom will be taking me to Stanford and will be with me during the duration. If we are able to raise donations, they will go to help pay bills since I won’t be receiving any paid leave. I started a new part time job at Home Depot a few weeks ago. We are grateful for any prayer, support, kind words, donation.
This all begins in the month of June, if you’d like to know more about Moyamoya send me a message I’m happy to give you more detail about the condition!! It was something I’d never heard of ❤️ thank you for reading!!
P.S. Down below is a description of Moyamoya Disease! I hope it educates and spreads some awareness!!
Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder caused by blocked arteries at the base of the brain in an area called the basal ganglia. Moyamoya means “puff of smoke” in Japanese and is used to describe the tangled appearance of tiny vessels compensating for the blockage.
Moyamoya disease was first described in Japan and is found in individuals around the world, although its incidence is higher in Asian countries than in Europe or North America. The disease primarily affects children, but can also occur in adults.
