With just a picture of a spitfire in January 2019 The Air Raid Shelter Cafe and Tearoom was born. The last seven years have been an incredible journey. We aimed to honour the wartime generation and educate the young. We have made so many amazing friends over the years and have been blown away by people's generosity, which has built up a wonderful collection of memorabilia. You've shared amazing memories with us including pictures of your loved ones that we treasure to keep their memory alive and help to tell each individual story.
For so long we bucked the trend and have been able to carry on trading with the support you have shown us. But unfortunately we can't carry on any longer where we are. The decision to close has been made before we were forced out, but were determined to make it to VE Day together and we had the most splendid time. Being honest we now have a lack of resources, but it is our mission to come back in a new location. Part one of this is to pack the cafe up into storage. We need dry and moisture proof conditions to protect the memorabilia. We have found these storage facilities for this locally where everything would be kept safe and secure. To secure these facilities until we are able to relocate we are asking for your support. The storage is £216 per month, we have set a target of £1000 to enable us to keep everything safe until next year.
We hope you don't mind us asking for your help. Let's hope 2026 will bring back some more magic memories for us all at the cafe. The only sad thing is many of our customers and veterans like the wonderful Johnny are no longer with us, but we owe it to them to come back with a bigger venue, car park and a garden!!!!
