Annie's Story ❤

My name is Dawn Marie and I am the Executive Director and Wildlife rehabber for Samadhi Wildlife. On October 17th 2019 I received an urgent phone call about a squirrel that was in route to be euthanized. As I gathered information I found that a tree trimmer had accidently massacred a mama squirrel and her 3 week old babies. There was one surviver, who's right leg was amputated just below the hip. With eyes still closed, this tiny squirrel's life had instantly changed forever, along with mine and the others that were a part of her special journey.
I asked the lady who received the injured squirrel from the tree trimmer to stop the car and send me a photo of the injury. She pleaded with me that I didn't understand because she needed to be euthanized immediately due to the trauma. I still insisted on a photo, and by the grace of God she sent me one. What I saw was a healthy baby squirrel that could adapt to life with 3 legs! Although her injury could have killed her due to blood lose and infection, I knew there was hope for this little angel! Once I received the squirrel from the lady, the story of Annie was born!
Annie is a miracle and one of the best rehabs that I have ever worked with. She allowed me to deep clean her amputated leg and wrap it until I was able to get her to Dr. Mike Burke, the most kind hearted veterinarian I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. Annie's surgery began after hours at Dr. Burke's clinic. I assisted Dr. Burke with Annie's surgery, closely monitoring Annie's anesthesia and respirations, while my husband documented Dr. Burke mending what was left of Annie's leg with his precision skills and steady hands. When the surgery was over I held Annie in my hands as we all looked at her in total amazement from what she had just been through that day. She lost her entire family and her leg within seconds! This tiny squirrel was a warrior and had the strongest will to live that I had ever seen! Today Annie is a healthy, thriving 9 month old squirrel that has enough loving personality to fill an arena!
Annie is Samadhi Wildlife's educational embassador and will remain in our care until her sweet soul leaves this planet. Annie is the voice for all the injured and orphaned wildlife that needs intervention. With the mass amounts of habitat destruction due to deforestation, the number of animals in need has risen to a frightening level. At Samadhi Wildlife we give every creature the chance they deserve by offering them a safe haven to receive medical care, nutrition and rehabilitation until they are well enough to be released back to their natural habitat. Due to this overwhelming need Samadhi Wildlife survives strictly on donations from the public as we are a 501C3 nonprofit organization. The expense to rehabilitate one single animal can be tremendous so we ask for your kindness to support Annie's continuing care, as well as the copious amounts of wildlife in need. Without your donations we will not be able continue saving our incredible wildlife. Your donations will offer an injured, helpless, frightened creature a chance to survive comfortably instead of suffering to death or being euthanized. The animals, myself, and the Samadhi Wildlife team are forever grateful for your donation! Thank you ❤
Our Mission:
Samadhi Wildlife rehabilitates sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife, and releases flourishing animals back to their natural habitat. We provide a safe haven with individualized care, and are the compassionate voice for all wildlife in need. Through educational outreach, we empower the community with awareness and appreciation so that they may live in harmony with wildlife, stop habitat destruction by human encroachment, and protect our delicate ecosystems. ❤
