The town of Lahaina on West Maui was destroyed by a wildfire fueled in part by Hurricane Dora, leading to complete devestation of the town including hundreds of homes, businesses, churches, and schools. Lahaina is a culturally and historically significant town as the former capital of the Kingdom of Hawai'i and vital to the economy of Maui.

While Hawai'i may seem so far away for many, the fires have hit close to home for Michelle. The destruction of homes and businesses has displaced thousands of residents, and unfortunately Michelle was directly impacted.
