On August 7th, 2021, Aria Marie Barrett was born. Although she appeared perfect – we quickly learned she had a nonfunctional immune system. The medical diagnosis is a very rare disorder known as Severe Combined Immune Deficiency or “SCID”. Sometimes referred to as the “bubble boy” or “bubble baby” disease; Aria is faced with numerous challenges to overcome and hopefully conquer this affliction.
In April 2022, Aria will undergo a bone marrow transplant at Boston Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, her HERO 3-year-old brother - Bodhi James will be her donor as he is a 100% match!
Transplant preparation involves aggressive chemotherapy to clear Aria’s system. Both children are engaged in pre-transplant testing and prep at Boston Children’s Hospital (Boston, MA) in coordination with many other Medical, Academic, and Research community members including Connecticut Children’s and Dana Farber. Due to the extremely rare nature of this condition, she will require life-long monitoring and treatment.
Aria’s very survival requires the family’s complete quarantine and isolation since her birth. Her mom (Shauna) and dad (Tim) have exhausted their maternity, paternity and general leave of absences and are both now on unpaid leave for an undetermined time period. Expenses could be overwhelming e.g.,
• Medical Expenses
• Travel to and from hospitals ~ mainly Boston
• Hotel stays for the family during “non-admit” procedures
• Future care (e.g., potential surgeries, medications)
It’s time to ask for help.
We are hoping that folks will stand with us and join “Aria’s Army”. 100% of your donations will be going to Aria’s treatment and ongoing care.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
