Please Help-Smidge Needs Emergency Surgery

Donation protected
Smidge, a.k.a Noonie, is a 6-year old English Lab who is fun, silly, and full of life. She loves running outside and playing in the snow. Other than the occasional ear infection and maybe a little extra weight around the middle (but really, who hasn’t gained a little of that during the pandemic!), she’s been healthy and active.

But on Monday night Smidge wasn’t acting like herself and after a quick trip to the local vet, her family was told to rush her to the Cornell University Animal Hospital. After lots of blood work, x-rays, and other tests they found her liver enzymes are dangerously high, and they aren’t sure why. The vet doesn’t believe it’s cancer (though that’s not completely ruled out), and has narrowed it down to either copper in her liver (something that apparently affects some labs), or, some sort of toxin in her system that is causing the illness. Both of these conditions can be treated, but due to the small size of her liver and in order to find out which treatment to prescribe, the Vet must go in and do laparoscopic surgery to confirm the diagnosis.

Smidge is currently at the clinic, doing what labs do—taking this in stride despite the health crisis she is in, and greeting all those around her with happy dog smiles and a wagging tail. But her human siblings, Taylor and Trey, her fur-sister Sadie, and her human mom, Terry, are home without her, a wreck as they try to deal with the uncertainty around Smidge’s health, and the inevtible vet bills that come with it. I know times are tough for everyone, but if you have a few bucks to give, it would be greatly appreciated. And if you don’t have anything to give, that’s okay, too. Just sharing this on your social media can help get the word out there.

The costs associated with Smidge’s surgery and care at the clinic are approximately $7000.00. All funds raised will be given to Terry, to pay the vet bills and costs. If, God forbid, Smidge takes a turn for the worse and doesn’t make it through this, and/or there are any unused funds left, they will be donated to a local animal rescue organization. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and we’ll keep everyone updated on Smidge and how she’s doing, as we find out more information.
