If you know me then you know Meeka. I have had her for 13+ years this June. I take her with me everywhere I possibly can. I talk about her constantly and post loving photos of her and us together all the time. She is a major part of my life, my happiness and my mental health.

On April 7th Meeka began screaming and became violently ill. She was vomiting bile, she was lethargic, could not walk or stand, she was panting uncontrollably and was in a complete daze. I rushed her to her vet where they did over three hours of tests and came up with theories but no solid answers. The next day we were scheduled to fly to San Jose, CA. Over the next week Meeka seemed fine, she was eating, peeing and pooping like normal... But she was also just a little slow and her belly looked swollen... a few days after that her belly got so big it became concerning. Then on Sunday 4/18 her breathing was very shallow and her belly was completely distended. At 3AM I rushed her to the ER. She looked like a little sausage ready to POP.

Over the next 38+ hours they kept her to run tests such as extras, CT scan, biopsies, needle aspirations, blood work... The results came back that she had a growth on her right kidney. Upon further inspection is seemed to be a carcinoma cancerous tumor. They also drained almost a liter of fluid from her belly, but they were not sure what the source of the leaking was.

On Tuesday 4/20, Meeka went in for a very risky two hour surgery. It was an incredibly long and worrisome day for me. They removed her right kidney and her right urinary track. She survived the surgery and pulled through it like a champ. She has about 30 stitches in her tummy but she was already up and walking the very day I brought her home.

She is a wonderful and amazing happy dog. She lights up a room when she struts in with the clickity-clack of her nails on the wood floors. She has helped me through my episodes of depression by forcing me to have to get out of bed at least 3-5 times a day... being able to take her into the office was what helped me through the long work days... she was there for me all through my diagnosis of breast cancer and my 12 rounds of chemotherapy.... she brought me so much love and joy while I was healing from my 4 surgeries... she is such an amazing and massively good part of my life.

That is why I am willing to pay all that is required by the ER vet doctors, the Oncology Team and the Surgeons to do all that we can to keep her health and alive. That being said I have now put myself in over $15K dollars of debt and rising. I have used up all my savings and put the rest on a very unforgiving credit card. I decided to stay in San Jose CA until she is through recovery, which could be weeks. But I feel in my heart that San Jose is the best place she can be for recovery. Here she has fresh air, sunshine, silence, space and nature. She has done so much for me and I know she has brought so much joy to others, that I feel she deserves every chance; that she is someone that I cannot give up on without trying. She deserves a fighting chance and money is only money but Meeka is a great part of my life for so many years.

All donations will go towards Meeka’s massive ER, Oncology and surgery vet bills. When I first got her she was already 3 years old and I was stupid and never got her pet insurance. I am now learning my lesson. But I will continue to work with the Oncology Team to do all we can to save her. She is recovering well and quickly; she is still walking around and smiling, she still lights up a room with her sweet little face... so I have to keep trying for her.
