This campaign is being established for my dear friend of 40+ years and her beloved husband, Susan and Devin Dutka. On Saturday morning, February 23, Devin had a massive heart attack. Upon arrival to the hospital he was taken for open heart surgery resulting in five (5) bypasses. Devin's chest was left open and impella machines were being used for circulatory support on both the left and right sides of his heart. He was in a medically induced paralytic state, along with heavy sedation. Monday morning the cardiologist explained to Susan that everything Tupelo had to offer had been done for Devin, and suggested transport to UAB in Birmingham, as they have more advanced "tools" with which to work on him, giving him every chance to survive and recover. After being settled in at UAB, Devin was taken to surgery again, to clean out his chest and take a look. An echmo machine was placed, and one of the impella machines was removed. He is also now on dialysis so his heart, lungs, and kidneys have a chance to recover. Another evaluation and treatment plan will be done in 72 hours. Devin is in CICU Room 5221, 5th Floor, UAB. Devin pastors at Crossroads Christian Church in the Auburn Community of Lee County, as well as, working a full time job at Renin Corporation. Susan works at Shelter Insurance. Devin has short term disability through his job, however, this transport is costly, along with medical expenses and related travel, lodging, and meals for Susan. If you would like to directly assist with this financial burden, any donation is greatly appreciated. For those who have asked how they can help, your prayers for Devin's improvement and strength and comfort for his family are coveted. I will be posting updates on Devin's condition as Susan posts.
