******UPDATE 12/26/2023.
Eric passed away this evening. Prayers & donations are appreciated. We will update more if Krystal wants to.
******UPDATE 12/25/2023.
We met with the doctors today and going forward we're going to start with comfort care. They've switched his medication to propofol and fentanyl so that way he won't wake up. If he had woken up he wouldn't be himself.. no feeding himself, no talking, couldn't look at you, walk, talk, nothing. That's so no way to live. Within the next couple days I will decide to have the breathing tubes removed and then it's up to Eric on what he wants to do and for how long. It's a shitty situation but at the end it's what Eric would have wanted me to do. If you want to visit now would be the time.
Updates below******
As some of you may know, my brother-in-law, Eric is in the ICU. My sister, Krystal said: He was brought up to the hospital yesterday and on the way he had a possible seizure. As he got into the ED they started CPR because he had a heart attack.
They did CPR for 58 minutes and got his heart started again. Right now he is on a breathing machine, meanwhile they have him on Propofol and fentanyl to let his body rest. The next 3 days are going to be a waiting game. He’s currently having a dialysis treatment and will continue to have a slow treatment throughout the night. They are currently running some test on his brain to check his brain function (the test will continue throughout the next couple days) which will tell if he had a seizure for sure or if those were signs of a heart attack. I’ll keep everyone posted.
Any donation is helpful and appreciated.
****UPDATE 12/22/2023:
Tonight we were told that Eric doesn’t have much brain function. He had lack of oxygen for a long time while doing CPR. He is still fighting but with his brain function being where it is, it’s not looking good. They will monitor him for the next day or two to keep an eye on him but unfortunately at some point we will have to decide what to do. Right now it’s a day at a time.
******UPDATE 12/23/2023
Eric did good last night. Was very settled and comfortable. He was very responsive to their testing but with the brain damage it wouldn’t really make a difference. They just gave him some medication to paralyze him to start ruling some stuff out and make him more comfortable, It’s not a long lasting thing. He still has a good strong heart beat. Anyone that would like to visit is welcome. The hours are pretty open. He’s on McClure 4 in room 22. There’s a phone on the wall so you’ll just have to let them know room 22 for Bergeron. Thanks to everyone for checking in ❤️
********UPDATE 12/24/2023
Eric had some brain activity today. At some point they’ll bring him to get a MRI. We’ve discovered he can definitely hear you. I was talking to someone today in the room and as I was getting upset about something, he would get upset. He would get going about something and me talking to him calms him down within 10 seconds. So he can hear us. Overall we’re just waiting to see what the next couple days brings us.
******UPDATE 12/25/2023
Eric was very settled all day. They took him off the propofol to check his brain activity which takes 24 hours. The MRI shows that he has some severe brain damage but also that he had a seizure, heart attack and stroke when he first arrived at the hospital. He had the seizure as the rescue pulled in. Shortly after the seizure is when he had a heart attack. While having a heart attack he had the stroke. They are thinking that he may have had some small heart attacks and or strokes in the past but aren’t 100% sure until they do more test. They did say that he can definitely hear what’s going on and has some movements. We will meet with his doctor and neurologist tomorrow. He’s resting now and seems to be very comfortable. Thank you for all the prayers, text, calls and visitors.
