"PLEASE HELP JOE AND KATHY”
Five years ago, my sister Kathy and my best friend of 55 years, Joe, were married. They had rekindled a love that started in high school but then they lost touch when our family relocated. Now, a more loving couple is hard to find. Their hearts beat as one.
In the early morning hours of November 6th, 2021, Joe’s heart stopped.
He had been experiencing some chest pain so arrived at the heart hospital in Amarillo, TX, for an appointment with a cardiologist. This is located 120 miles away from his home in Oklahoma. The testing showed a need for a quadruple bypass. Surgery was done the next day which seemed successful. Less than 24 hours later, he experienced lung issues and was sedated and intubated. A few hours after that, he coded but was revived by the code blue team. He was sedated for more than a week and is now extubated but experiencing a complication which is causing cognitive and motor function issues.
When I got the phone call from his wife, Kathy, I drove the 1000+ miles from Indiana to help them in any way I could. I spent 10 days there before I exhausted my financial reserves and had to return home. Kathy is now living in a hotel in Amarillo, hours away from home and family. They live modestly in their home, subsisting on a small pension and SSI. Their medical insurance is through Medicare. The expenses of lodging and food, not to mention the amount of any copays that are being acquired, are so much more than they can handle. All this and not knowing yet when he can return to Oklahoma or how much therapy will be involved or even if he will be able to return to their small home.
Thus comes my heartfelt request for financial assistance for this family. Please help this family by donating toward these expenses. Please share this story!
