Please help with home downpayment!

Thank you for checking out my fundraiser! We were recently approved to participate in Habitat for Humanity's home ownership program and I'm trying to raise money for the downpayment and a few other things needed for the move.

My mother, my husband, and myself live in a 3rd floor apartment. The rent is super cheap but the apartment is falling apart and is not handicap accessible.

My husband has kidney failure and has been on dialysis for 13 ½ years. He has brain damage from high blood pressure and is kind of like a person with dementia. He requires constant supervision since he can't do things for himself, can't communicate very well, and doesn't think about the things he does do. He is also a below knee amputee on his right leg and had his toes amputated on his left leg and is not mobile at all. This makes living on the 3rd floor very difficult. He is transported by ambulance for dr appts so they carry him down and up but he can't go anywhere else as I can not carry him up and down the stairs. It's also a huge source of stress for me because if there was ever a fire, I would have to somehow get him outside and down the stairs myself.

This building was built in the 60s but our landlord did not keep up with maintenance and fixing things so it is in poor condition. Poor plumbing, crumbling concrete stairs in front, old electric, poor roof, etc. He passed away 6 months ago and his wife has dementia so their kids plan on selling this place. There's no money to fix things. We even had to pay to rent a ladder so a hole in the roof could be fixed because water was getting in. This place will pretty much be a rehab project and we'll have to move. But that is not that easy for us. With two people on disability and myself not working since I'm my husband's full-time caregiver (I even do his dialysis myself at home!), we can't afford to rent a house or even another apartment big enough for us. Rent elsewhere is 2-3x what we pay now and that is for small places.

Last Oct, Habitat for Humanity was in our area for an informational session where they said they will be building 7 homes in our city. At least 30 people showed up for applications so I was worried about our chances of getting picked but even they realized how in need we are of a home and we were approved a couple weeks ago!

It is a wonderful opportunity for us and will improve all our lives. My husband will be able to go outside for something other than dr appts! My mom is disabled herself and the stairs are getting harder so no more stairs! I won't have to worry about getting a landlord to fix something or having to move. It will be OUR home! A brand new 3 bd 2 bath home! And it's actually affordable at about $500-550 a month for the mortgage!

The downpayment is $2500 which is just incredible considering a traditional mortgage wants a lot more down. They only do carpet in the bedrooms so I will also need to buy carpet myself for the living room since my husband is a fall risk and needs that extra cushioning and spends the majority of his time in the living room. And then there's just the normal moving costs, setting up utilities and deposits, getting new used furniture, etc. So I'm hoping to raise about $4000 so that we won't have to worry about anything to do with our living situation for a change and can just focus on enjoying our very own SAFE home!

I know times are tough for everyone as it is so any amount donated is so very much appreciated!! ❤
