Please Help with DWayne's Neck Surgery
Donation protected
I don't really know how to do this and I'm not very good at asking for help especially publicly, but I just don't know what else to do.
My husband, Dwayne Barrett, is suffering. He has recently been diagnosed with a bone growth on one of his cervical vertebrae in his neck that is pinching the spinal cord. This causes him to have dizzy spells, trouble gripping things with his hands, sciatica and sometimes his legs will just give out on him without warning. His neck and shoulders are terribly swollen, which contributes to the dizziness as well as ringing in his ears, constant headaches, blurred vision, and episodes of confusion/disorientation. He gets no relief and consequently gets little sleep. He is in constant pain, even though he may try to make the people around him believe otherwise.
Dwayne is a carpenter. His forte is in commercial construction of mid-rises; being a foreman running a small crew as well as a site safety coordinator at times. These tasks require skilled coordination, clear eyesight, good balance, fine motor skills, attention to even the most minute details, and LOTS of physicality.
When COVID first emerged last year, he was laid off before the extra $600 was tacked on to unemployment. Because of COVID and his medical condition he later was laid off from 5 more jobs; the last time being the week of Christmas. Because of this we have no insurance, no paid time off, and no money to seek the medical attention my husband so desperately needs. The doctors have already informed us he will require an updated X-ray and MRI prior to his neurosurgeon consult as surgery is absolutely necessary and will in turn require 3-4months downtime for recovery.
Dwayne is my rock. He is an amazing husband and father, and he's the best friend anyone could ever have always going out of his way to help those around him and wanting nothing in return but their wellbeing. This past summer I had my second major back surgery and then unfortunately got salmonella during recovery. He was there by my side to take care of me every moment he could reassuring me that I would get through it, allowing me some grace and humility in my struggles and celebrating my triumphs as I overcame them all the while still enduring chronic pain and discomfort and never complaining. I want to be that for him; I want to help him and let him know that he can rely on others when he is in need and he doesn’t always have to be the “strong one” but I can't without help.
Again I cannot express how hard this is for me to do, but I really have nowhere else to turn. Any help you may have to give is truly and sincerely appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I wish the best to you and yours.
Forever grateful,
Cynthia Barrett
