Two years ago in 2022 We were getting ready to celebrate our 50th birthday on August 29th . As many of my friends know we are Triplets . Dina , Danny & Michael . My brother Danny went for his routine colonoscopy. The results came on 8/6/22 and would devastate us all , family and friends . Danny was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer . The primary tumor started in his colon and has spread to his liver . He has 10 spots on his liver located on the left lobe and right lobe . Making surgery not an option . Danny had his port put in and started to receive a regimen of chemotherapy. For the last 2 years Danny has had continuous chemotherapy hoping to shrink the tumors in the liver . We continue to pray that this happens and fight for everyday .
One of the toughest things to deal with aside from the cancer is the financial burden it has taken on him . Prior to falling sick Danny has worked his whole life and was a union worker . During the pandemic like many he was laid off then came his diagnosis. Whatever savings was used to get him by the last few years . Danny became unable to work as many of you know chemotherapy is very disabling, he was put on SSI disability with Medicare after the 24 month rule after you are diagnosed . Although this is a help monthly, $175 is taken out of his check to pay for his part B coverage. Social security pays 80% of charges . I reached out to Medicaid as an option to cover the balance after but told he makes to much on Social Security. I spoke to the his oncology office who told me that his copays for each chemo treatment can be almost $1000 dollars each round . I was told that we need to figure it out before his next treatment.
So here we are trying to figure it out . I am trying to see how much a secondary plan would cost they average approximately $300 a month .
My brother Danny has always been and still is a proud person . It took a lot of convincing to let me start this GoFund me . I told him sometimes we need help from our family and friends and it’s okay to ask .
Danny is trying to remain independent and has a car that he pays monthly and is able to drive himself to treatment still, his car insurance and phone bill. The biggest issue now will be to cover his chemotherapy treatments.
If you can help Danny with his fight by donating anything we truly are thankful and appreciate your help .
Even if you cannot donate we would like to spread awareness of colon cancer and encourage you if you are 45 years old or even have a family history to go get your screenings it can save your life .
Thank you
Please pray for our brother and everyone else fighting the fight.
