West Side High School Rugby is a new team/program looking to compete with other NY State teams at a competitive level and help develop a multiple pathways league for other transfer schools in the city.

Our students are new to the sport, but display the same enthusiasm, hunger, determination and motivation of a fully established rugby program.  Our players are students who have been unsuccessful in traditional high school settings and come to West Side to be part of a supportive community to help them graduate.

Rugby is exposing our students to essential life skills, building character, developing friendships and transforming their lives. In our first year we have already built strong connections with various colleges, Next level rugby, New York Rugby Club,  Play Rugby USA and received donations from the Memphis Inner City Rugby program.  At least 8 of our players are active members of Play Rugby USA, New York Rugby Club and are looking to play rugby at college.

Due to budget restraints we are looking to raise $5000 in funds for both Girls and Boys teams to be able to compete. The breakdown of the funds are for the following:

30 x Player registration with USA Rugby and NY Rugby for two seasons = $2250

Annual referee fee = $175

Referee fees per game (10 games) = $450

30 x Hoodie, t-shirt and sweatpants for practice and traveling to the games = $2,423.72
