Please help Vera’s House fire recovery
My grandparents immigrated to the United States from Mexico with six children to make a better life for their family. My grandfather worked as a maintenance worker at Ohlone College for 25 years in that time he supported a total of nine children in their beautiful home on Rockett Drive that's been in the family for 61 years. Anyone who's grown up in the Rockett Drive/Durham neighborhood has probably seen the original Vera household on the corner. It's been home to now four generations of our incredibly large and diverse family and we've decorated year after year for holidays such as the Fourth of July. My grandparents, now in their nineties, had to witness the house they've called home their entire adult lives go up in flames. It was devastating to see the birthplace of so many memories burn in a horrific fire.
As we all recover in the face of tremendous emotional stress and financial burdens, we are hoping to alleviate some of the stress and ultimately recover from this immense loss.
We are incredibly grateful that everyone is safe but we will need the love and support of our friends and family to rebuild what has been lost. Every donation helps and no amount is too small.
