Until recently, my aunt Vanessa was the eyes of our family.

Every day she cared for her mother, who lost her vision several years ago from glaucoma. She cooked her meals, helped her bathe, cleaned their home, and made sure she was never alone.

Then everything changed.

Late last year, Vanessa began experiencing dizziness, blurred vision, and weakness on one side of her face.

After undergoing a CT scan in January, doctors discovered a large tumor at the front of her brain, measuring nearly 5 centimeters. The tumor has caused significant swelling and pressure on her brain and has taken away her vision in both eyes.

Today, both my aunt and my grandmother are blind. And they both live alone.

Our family is asking for your help to give my aunt a chance to see again.

The specialists believe that surgery is urgently needed to remove the tumor and relieve the pressure. This surgery offers the hope of restoring her eyesight and preventing further complications.

Vanessa lives in Grenada, where this life-changing surgery must be paid for out of pocket. The total cost, including aftercare, is approximately $25,000 USD—far beyond what our family can afford. Further, the surgery cannot be done in Grenada. Vanessa has to travel to Trinidad for this operation.

Today, both mother and daughter are living in the same home, unable to see and dependent on others for even the simplest daily tasks.

We are incredibly grateful that we were able to enroll them in a community assistance program. A caregiver comes Monday to Friday to help prepare meals, and provide support as needed. However, that help ends at 2:00 p.m., leaving two blind women alone for the rest of the day and through the night.

Our greatest hope is to give Vanessa the opportunity to undergo the surgery she desperately needs. If successful, it could restore her vision and allow her to once again care for herself—and for her mother.
