Hi, my name is Katie. I am a cat lover, and have 3 rescue cats of my own, Jinx, Gus and Sophie. We’ve recently had a stray coming into the garden, which is quite common. However, this little boy was covered in mud, he was wet, drooling, bleeding from the gums, and an unhealthy weight, emaciated almost- he could barely stand up or walk because he was so wobbly. He was clearly in a bad way, especially because he was not grooming- showing signs of depression. He was very scared at first, but after some encouragement and food I was able to gain trust. And since then he has come every day asking for help. He is the most loving and sweet boy, he enjoys head rubs and cuddles and just wants any affection he can get. After posting him on many social media sights, with over 5000 views and over 80 shares, still no one has come forward. After some bad weather, he was absolutely soaked, cold, not moving and clearly very poorly so we decided to bring him in! As per the advice I had gotten from social media, we took him to vets to get him scanned but unfortunately there was no chip present, and no information of any previous owner. We also discovered, he has an extremely severe viral infection, which the vet described as a likeness to flu, for which he was treated with an antibiotic injection and pain medication. Due to a huge amount of swelling, bleeding and drooling from his mouth, the vet discovered what she described as the worst case of dental and gum issues she has ever seen, and he is in URGENT need of dental surgery. The vet made it clear that due to the severity of his mouth and overall infection, things could have gotten much worse much quicker, as he may have stopped eating all together and just given up. Because of the urgent treatment he needs we have already faced unexpected costs of over £100, not to mention costs of food, an extra litter box, blankets etc. The vet advised us not to let him around our other cats, because of the high risk of spreading the infection, therefore he is currently in a bedroom on his own, for the safety of our other cats and for him to recover in a quiet space with no stress. He also needs blood tests, neutering and microchipping, and given how poorly he is, may be required to stay in the vets, on fluids and feeding tubes to recover from the surgery. The vet has given us a maximum estimate of £2000 for these procedures and any medications following. With the expense of having three cats already, especially with one having FIV and diabetes and needing treatment of his own, we are pleading for any help to save Teddy! We have grown to love this precious little boy already, and he is now warm, able to rest and receiving all of the care and love that he needs. Although he was given an antibiotic injection and some pain medication, he is still in quite a bit of pain, not eating much, and struggling with his illness, which he tells us with his little pain purrs… this is why he needs urgent care. It is simply just an issue of financial strain that we really hope you wonderful people could help with, so that we get him back to a normal healthy and happy cat. We would be grateful for any donation to help save little Teddy.
