As most of you know, Cherise was diagnosed with a brain tumor nearly 30 years ago. She has battled through years of radiation, chemotherapy, and several brain operations. Despite her many successes at holding the tumor at bay, on December 20, 2017, Cherise's doctor informed us that there was nothing more they could do. Cherise was given 3 weeks to 6 months to live and then placed on hospice care.
Although her health has slowly waned over this past year and a half, her survivor's spirit is strong. According to the American Brain Tumor Association, no patient with Cherise's type of tumor has ever held on to life this long after being placed on hospice care. We feel incredibly blessed that she has been able to fight so hard and live such an incredible life filled with love, joy and beauty.
Up to this point, her parents have been able to care for her needs. Two weeks ago, however, her mother found herself in the hospital with a heart condition, as well as other stress related issues. Her mom and dad are retired and in their 70's. They have been doing everything they can to keep Cherise home with them, but have now come to the realization that they cannot do this on their own any longer.
Despite occasional help from friends and family, we now know that full time nursing care will be necessary. We have looked into residential nursing care facilities. Cherise is only 48 years old. The idea of her spending her final days in a nursing home is breaking our hearts. Would you please consider helping us keep her at home? Keeping her home will require full time in-home nursing care that is neither affordable for her parents nor covered by insurance.
Cherise spent her years, while battling this unforgiving disease, working to help raise money for the American Brain Tumor Association and other related causes. Over the years, through organizing and hosting fundraisers and participating in remote ice climbs, runs, walks and triathlons, she has raised nearly $100,000 for others. Can we please come together now to help raise these funds for her? We really need your help. Anything that you can offer will be so appreciated. Blessings to you all.
