I am trying to raise money for a colleague and friend, Maxiana, a Nurse Practitioner who expertly attends to patients at a local hospital.

Maxiana's dad had relocated from Haiti to live in the Dominican Republic; he did not have health insurance. He became ill approximately one month ago when a mass was identified in his brain. He was too sick to travel to the United States, and surgery to remove the mass was performed. Tragically, within hours of the surgery, he developed bleeding on the brain, requiring a second surgery which he was not able to recover from. He remained in a coma for 8 days on a ventilator with his wife and daughter at his side. He was unfortunately declared brain dead.

Maxiana chose to remove him from life support, but resistance from the hospital to collect additional money required her to hire an attorney and subsequently be able to remove her dad from life support, at which time he died. Unfortunately, the expenses of the hospital, surgery, and the attorney cost well over $100,000, which she was forced to pay in cash to receive his body for cremation and return to the United States. This has taken both a traumatic as well as financial burden on Maxiana and her family. Please help in any way you can.
