Hello everyone, my name is Hunter Schur and my best friends' name is Cosmo. He is my amazing, loving and beautiful 6 year old lab that suffered a freak accident on February 11th, 2023.
I am still trying to process the reality of what has happened, Cosmo is a very healthy, active and extremely friendly lovable boy. On February 11th i took him for our evening stroll to the dog park like any other night after dinner, we headed down to the park to play fetch and on the first throw he went to go chase the ball but suddenly let out a heartbreaking yelp followed by him collapsing on the ground with the inability to move his back legs and had rushed him to the 24hr emergency where they mediately transferred us the neuro specialist where he has been hospitalized since.
My partner Lex and I are devastated as he truly is our baby and we can't picture this life without him. Cosmo is currently in the specialist veterinary hospital undergoing tests and treatment but sadly lost his ability to use his back legs and loss of bladder function. It is not an official diagnosis yet but the vets have told us so far it looks like Acute Non-compressive Nucleus Pulposus Extrusion (ANNPE)
We have already had to put 10,000 dollars down on the first day. We were only able to make this possible by our close family members all collectively pitching in... but we are told to expect a very high bill on top of that as we are still undergoing tests and overnight stays in the hospital as well it's possible he will need full-time care, physiotherapy and a hind wheelchair. We are told by the neurosurgeon that there is a chance of him gaining 90% of his mobility with the proper care, treatment and recovery plan but no timeline, We are simply struggling to even fathom how much physiotherapy and further testing will be from here on out but we refuse to throw in the towel ever and are fully prepared mentally and physically to support cosmo as pet owners and most importantly parents, He truly is my son and my everything.
We have suffered major setbacks this year already with me shattering my leg and undergoing emergency surgery in late august and are financially in a difficult space. We are reaching out with all of our love to ask for even small donations so we can do our best to get Cosmo the best care and treatment.
Words simply cannot describe how much he means to us and how I will do everything I can to get my boy back home in my arms with me again. He is my son, my family and I cannot give up on him ever, he deserves the world and everything it has to offer him. so I ask you from the bottom of my heart please help me save my boy. if you have had the pleasure of meeting cosmo in person then you already know he's more than just a dog, he's Cosmo Schur my son.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read and who donates in advance. Lex and I would like to ask if you cannot donate please share our story and help get Cosmo home.
