Hello everyone,
My name is Raquel, and I’m reaching out during one of the hardest moments of my life. Asking for help is never easy for me, but at this point, I’m fighting to keep a roof over my daughter’s head and to get stable transportation so I can continue working and caring for her. I have no family or consistent support to lean on, so I’m doing this on my own and turning to the community for help.
Almost two years ago, I lost my mom. Losing her broke something in me that I’ve been trying to piece back together ever since. She was my biggest support system, the person I leaned on when life got too hard. Going through all of this without her has made every setback feel heavier, and with the holidays approaching, that absence feels even deeper. This time of year is supposed to be filled with warmth, family, and stability — but instead, I’m fighting just to keep a roof over my daughter’s head.
My paychecks started being garnished by $300–$400 each, making it almost impossible to keep up. I’ve fallen behind on rent, caught up, fallen behind again — and now I’m facing eviction. My rent is $1,550, and additional fees have been added, putting me in an even deeper hole, and I’m months behind with no where to go.
At the same time, my transportation situation has collapsed. My original car broke down, and I spent $3,000 trying to fix it, only for the mechanic to damage the transmission — another $1,000 — and the car still failed. Then I was scammed out of $2,500 for a car with a fake title. When I purchased yet another car, the engine failed the day after I paid two months of overdue rent.
Now, without a working car, I’m spending $250–$300 every single day on Lyft just to get my daughter to school and get myself to work. Then having to spend $200 a week for child care made things worst. I can’t save, I’m barely staying afloat, and with the holidays coming up, the idea of us possibly being homeless during a season that’s supposed to be filled with hope and family is breaking my heart.
I’m not asking for a handout — just a hand to get me and my daughter back to stable ground. Anything, even 50 cents, truly helps and adds up. I’m hoping to raise $10,000 to:
Prevent eviction and cover the overdue rent + fees
Get reliable transportation (registration and insurance included)
Catch up on essential bills so I don’t fall behind again.
