Please help us saving Bambino’s leg

Hi, my name is Dagmar and I’m trying to fundraise for Bambino, a young, (now former!) feral cat who was badly injured roughly one week ago. He must have been hit by a car or motorcycle or something like that and suffered a serious fracture that needs surgery to heal. I trapped him and he saw our vets over the
weekend but his injury needs more than my vets can provide.

The fractured femur is a result of blunt force, no internal injuries or even abrasions were found. Unfortunately it cannot be fixed by pins and wires plus a stabilizing cast - this needs a plate and screws. Because of its severity we had to make a decision on how to proceed.

There’s the quick and not very costly solution of amputation. But looking at Bambino’s age (he’s around one year old) I didn’t want to take his leg away from him if there’s the chance of solving this issue with special surgery.

After extensively looking into everything, Central Nova Animal Hospital referred us to Dr. Draper, who’s THE most experienced and successful veterinarian in this field in our region. Yesterday I had a lengthy conversation with him and decided to go forward with “saving Bambino’s leg”.

This upcoming Friday Bambino will see Dr. Draper for surgery.

Of course this will be expensive.
It’s just as special as open heart procedures or neurosurgery if I may say so. I will use some money I saved for emergencies but I’ll have to fundraise like crazy to cover the costs and give Bambino a real chance of living on 4 paws instead of 3.

You may ask, why not amputate, there’s lots of happy cats and dogs living with 3 legs left. Well, it’s mostly my heart speaking. It’s seeing my cat Mia, who almost lost her leg when she was a 6 week old kitten and now (after surgery) living her best life, running and jumping and doing her crazy kid things on 4 legs instead of 3. It’s the thought of problems arising that cannot easily be solved - animals can develop ghost pain or ghost leg just as humans. It’s a burden for the entire skeleton to adjust to one missing limb. It can cause arthritis or other degenerative conditions.

So.
I’ll come up with ways to make money for our little man. Thinking of a “please help us”-fundraiser, an auction, selling stuff….. we’ll see.

And…. Bambino will be safe with us.
No more feral life. He’s not hissing, never growling or trying to bite. He seems to be relieved to be inside where it’s warm and comfortable, with food, water and treats. He’s eating very well since I got him back from the vets, uses the litter box and is on effective pain killers.

We think he deserves a chance. ❤️

Thank you so much for reading until the end.
I know it’s lengthy…. but I wanted to give you as much information and insight as possible.
If you can find it in your heart to help us saving Bambino’s leg, it would be wonderful and greatly appreciated. I’m also adding the website of the clinic that will perform the complicated procedure. https://drapervet.com/

Thank you for your time and patience.
Please help us saving our Bambino’s leg.

Dagmar and Bambino ❤️
