Please Help us Save our Sweet Kitty from FIP

Hi everyone,

My name is Jules. My boyfriend and I adopted two hurricane rescue kittens in January 2021.

Everything was perfect until one of our girls, Lola, fell ill with an upper respiratory infection. Further testing led us to find out that she has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV.)

Feline Immunodeficiency Virus is also known as feline AIDS. She likely contracted it from her mother at birth. It causes a weakened immune system that makes her more susceptible to many health issues. It has been considered a “death sentence” for years, but once you get past the initial shock of the diagnosis, you find with research that FIV kitties can live long, fulfilling lives.

I was not ready to give up on my sweet baby.

She has been on a special immune support diet, immune support supplements, and has had very regular vet appointments since we found out.

All seemed to be going well until about about two months ago.

Lola’s left eye became very cloudy overnight. We immediately took her to an emergency veterinarian that diagnosed her with uveitis, which is inflammation of the iris.

They told us it was likely atypical and they weren’t sure of the cause. She went on antibiotic eyedrops but it took awhile to go away. Soon after her antibiotic course was over, she began walking with a bizarre gait.

She was extremely off balance, falling over sometimes and not able to jump & play like she used to.

Her spunky self faded into a tired girl who just wanted to lay with her mom.

After a seizure-like neurological episode, we took her to the Emergency vet. Then our regular vet.

Multiple blood panels later, we still had no answers.

She has remained eating and drinking well throughout the entire ordeal, but her balance is worsening. She is having trouble making it inside the litter box.

After much research and consulting with others, we believe she has FIP- feline infectious peritonitis.

It is a viral disease cause by a mutation of feline coronavirus.

This disease is very hard to diagnose, it is usually only able to be confirmed through a post mortem tissue sample.

Once again, this diagnosis has been considered a death sentence for many years. Only recently has there been a breakthrough in treatment for the “dry type.”

Thousands of people have treated their FIP cats with it and achieved a miraculous recovery.

As groundbreaking as this medicine is, it is very costly. Treatments can range anywhere from $2,000-10,000.

Unfortunately, after being dropped from our pet insurance for Lola’s FIV- we have spent thousands on appointments & bloodwork for her.

This medication is our last hope to save our beloved girl. She has been with us through a very tough few months, including our own health issues & the losses of a few close family members.

Many people have said “why don’t you just put her down? She’s not worth all that money.”

I have never been ready to give up on her, and I never will be. My sweet girl is still happy, eating, giving us kisses, and purring. She’s just doing it all a little wobbly. Although she is stable now, this disease is unpredictable & can be fast progressing. We need to get her medicine ASAP.

Everyone who has ever had the privilege to meet my girl has said how remarkably sweet and cuddly she is. She loves life and everyone she meets. We need her here to continue loving life, people, and tuna treats.

Please, if you are able to & feel called to, help us save our girl. I never wanted to have to ask anyone for help, but now I need to put those feelings aside.

The money raised will help cover the medication, supplies for injection administration, and bloodwork checkups with the vet.

If you can’t/don’t want to donate, just sharing this would mean the absolute world to us.

Thank you all.
