Hello, our sweet puppy, Graci, has a slipped disc in her back and has lost all movement in her hind legs. She is currently at the Wisconsin Veterinary Neurology & Surgical Center, and we will pick her up this afternoon. Fortunately, we did receive some good news that she will not need surgery at this time, as the vet/surgeon believes that rehab should get her back to almost normal. That said, this will be a 3 to 6-month process. Graci is such a wonderful dog and loves people so much. She is one of the happiest puppies I have ever been around, and we don't want to lose her. She is only 5 years old! As I had stated on facebook, Graci is actually my roommates (Dave and Mary) dog. That said, I have lived with them since I relocated back to Wisconsin from Southern California and, of course, since Graci was a little puppy. There has already been a significant outlay of money for all of this. They have put out roughly $10,000 thus far, with quite a bit more that needs to be spent over the next 3-6 months. The estimate of what this will end up costing them is going to be at least around $15,000. All of this has been going on with their credit cards, and they are just not in the position to handle this at this point. Dave is 72 years old, and Mary is 64, and they have been saving all they can to retire, and this has certainly put a kink in that. So, they need some help! I know many will think that they should have just put Graci "down,"...but she is only 5 years old, and she is just such a wonderful dog. When she gets here today she will be staying in the area gated off in our living room. She can't use her legs right now. We will be taking her to Hydrotherapy every week and helping her with rehab, so eventually, she will be walking again. We hope some of you good people will see fit to help us defray these costs at least somewhat. So, if we can raise at least $5000, it would be fantastic and helpful! We must save our Graci, and anything you can give would be greatly appreciated!! Whether that would be $10, $20, $25 etc...anything will help! Please help if you can. It is roughly $10,000 so far with at least another $5000 coming over the next 30 to90 days for ongoing hydrotherapy etc.

UPDATE: Graci will be starting the HYDROTHERAPY this coming week!!!! Finally. We have been taking her out and trying to help her to walk some. It has been very difficult due to the cold...but things are warming up!
