Please help us save Kurt’s life
Our great friend Kurt Magbanua unfortunately turned out Covid19 positive together with his wife Tara Magbanua. Both of them were following protocols in home quarantine for a few days until he had a sudden and significant turn on his health. Tara noticed he wasn’t responsive at all and was extremely pale. He was rushed to Iloilo Doctors Hospital via ambulance.
When he got admitted all the necessary tests were done and it came to our attention that Kurt was suffering from Diabetic Ketoacidosis - which is a serious complication of diabetes. His wife mentioned that Kurt did not even know he was already diabetic. His current state of DKA and Covid has taken a toll on his body resulting in multiple organ damages including malfunctions of his kidneys.
After stabilizing his Metabolic acidosis he is required to go through multiple session of Hemoperfusion which cost Php 87,000/session, Dialysis
Php 8,000/session, Remdesivir, multiple steroids Antibiotics and a long list of laboratory works that will sum up to a large amount.
After his first session- the Infectious Disease Specialist spoke to Tara and said that the prognosis was very poor due to the severity of his condition- the infection continues to progress to Sepsis and Severe Pneumonia. Kurt was immediately set up for intubation and will be under Intensive Critical Care.
It is very unfortunate that all these treatments and medications can add up to a vast amount of money. At first, we gathered all our friends to help out as much as we could, however we realized we needed more support to be able to afford and to continue all these treatments.
Kurt is the only breadwinner in his family, he recently suffered a terrible loss of his mother to cancer which left him with a lot of financial debts and responsibilities. Kurt is truly an amazing husband, selfless father to their son Kai and he never ever hesitated to go and beyond when anyone else needed help.
The truth is, Kurt wasn’t able to take care of himself, such as going to the doctor for routine check ups because he put his family’s needs first all the time especially his mother’s medical bill who greatly suffered before she passed away.
