We adopted Keebler a month ago. During the adoption process we found out that Keebler had been rescued with a bunch of other puppies and they all had parvo. Our Keebler girl almost didn’t make it then but she managed to pull through. In just a month we have completely fallen in love with her. Our 4 year old Rose now sleeps through the night because of her being in bed with her. No more night terrors. Two days ago we had to put our 17 yr old dog down and as much as it hurt, Keebler was there to give me lots of snuggles and make me feel better. She has been such a light in our life already.
While Keebler was napping today, I looked over and noticed her breathing was very fast. I thought she was having a dream but an hour later, her breathing was still very shallow. I placed my hand under her belly and noticed her heart rate was extremely elevated. We jumped into action and took her to the vet immediately. Unfortunately, we didn’t receive very good news. Keebler has an enlarged heart. The heart is so big that it’s pushing her trachea up to her spine which is causing the quick breathing. In addition to that, an ultrasound showed that she has fluid around her heart and lungs that appears to be blood. The vet needs us to take her to Richmond immediately but we do not have the funds to help her. The vet said it will cost around 2k to be seen but that doesn’t include hospitalization or any treatment. We are estimating 5k. If there is any money left over after treatment, we will donate it to SFC Virginia which is the rescue we got Keebler from.
Please help us! We love her so much!
