My world has been irreparably changed for the worse with the sudden passing of my wonderful mom, Theresa Ann. She died peacefully in her sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. We are absolutely gutted and heartbroken beyond words can express. Unfortunately the worst day of my life got even worse on Wednesday night, when my 8 year old Great Pyrenees, Jackson, started crying out in pain. He was panting, dry heaving, and couldn't get comfortable. Once I recognized these bloat symptoms I immediately took him to the closest open emergency vet. They took x-rays and confirmed my fears, Jackson has bloat and his stomach was twisted. They said his prognosis wasn't great but that they could help me get in touch with an emergency vet clinic that could do his surgery asap. The thought of losing my oldest fur baby, my first child, my big polar bear boy, on the same day as my mother, was just too much. I told them we're doing this, no matter the cost and we loaded him back up in the car to be transported to VSS West. The first vet visit was $670 for fluids, x-rays, diagnosis, etc. Thankfully Frenchie was driving so I was able to lay down in the back seat and hold Jackson as he cried over every bump and turn. His gums were pale, his breathing shakey, and his eyes lost. But he leaned into me and put his paw on my arm, comforting me while I comforted him. We got to VSS and helped load him on a gurney. The vet looked at him and then discussed his prognosis with us. She said his case is considered moderate (3.4/5) and gave him about a 50/50 chance. Then she let us know his surgery would cost about $3,500 and that they require half as a deposit. With holiday expenses and everything else going on, we are in desperate need for help. I've applied for a Care Credit but that only covers a small portion of the total. So please, help us if you can. All I want to do is grieve my mom and be there for my pup without worrying about how I'm going to pay for all of this. He is still in surgery as of writing this and I will update as soon as possible.
