Please help us recover some costs.

I wait with baited breath as I'm notified that the dog we've just rescued has been dropped off to the vet clinic. If I have no notifications then we're in the clear and the dog is healthy. If my phone rings, I'm answering a call that the new dog, that's now part of the NQAR foster family, has tested positive for Heartworm. Damnit, not another one... but yes, another one.  Can we afford to treat it? After this call I need to contact the foster carer to see if they will be willing to administer the dog daily medications, and keep it quiet (possibly crated) until the Heartworm has been treated and the dog is given the all clear. Heartworm is an expensive biatch to treat, and the treatment is undertaken over a few months. It's not quick and it's not cheap but we are very lucky to be supported by Ulysses Vets Cairns - these guys make it possible for us to treat these dogs by affording us veterinary care at an affordable price.  So, we're raising money to not only help us treat these dogs above, but to not have to question whether or not we can continue to afford treating these dogs that test positive to Heartworm. The faces you see are the dogs that are currently undergoing Heartworm treatment. Any donation you can afford will help make an impact. The amount we're trying to raise does not reflect the amount we need to raise (we wish!) but helps us moving forward. More information about North Queensland Animal Rescue Inc: NQAR rescues dogs from local pounds, vets, and owner surrenders, that would otherwise be put to sleep. We then see that these animals are given all necessary vet treatment, (always desexed, vaccinated and parasite treated) sometimes this includes surgeries for injuries, birth defects or treatment for complex medical cases such as heart worm treatment. They are then assessed behaviourally and re-rehabilitated where needed, given obedience training and re-homed with carefully screened new owners.
